2.0 Zetec-E in Mk4 Fiesta

Contents

Introduction

The Mk4 Ford Fiesta (1995-2002) was Britain's best-selling car 1996-1998, yet it came with only a modest selection of engines: 1.3 Endura-E (60 bhp), 1.25 16v Zetec-S (75 bhp), 1.4 16v Zetec-S (90 bhp) and 1.8 Endura-D (75 bhp), all with little scope for significant tuning gains. The most effective upgrade was to fit a 1.7 Zetec-S engine (125 bhp) from a Ford Puma which shares the same floorpan and many design features with the Fiesta, making for a straightforward swap.

I am keen to go a little further with mine by fitting the 2.0 Zetec-E (136 bhp) from a Ford Cougar (also found in the Mondeo and Focus). Tuning parts from companies like Burton Power are much easier to find for this unit, which bears no mechanical resemblance to the Zetec-S. Power gains of up to 200 bhp naturally-aspirated can be achieved.

Current Progress

  1. Engine removed from Ford Cougar.
  2. Megasquirt ECU built and tested.
  3. Engine overhaul in progress.
