My research interest is in the area of distributed transform coding and distributed video coding. Distributed coding is a non-traditional approach to source coding where the sources are coded independently at the encoder. However, they are jointly decoded at the decoder. Thus the correlation between the sources is exploited at the decoder.

An example of a system that this technique can be applied is a multi-view camera system where the inter-camera communication is not allowed. In the case of distributed video coding, each video frame is encoded independently (intraframe coding). The interframe decoding is then performed at the decoder.

We are focusing on applying the concept of sampling of signals with Finite Rate of Innovation (FRI signals), together with Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), to create a new framework for distributed transform coding of video sequence and multi-view images. Using FRI principles, we develop a new approach to perform motion estimation at the decoder based on the extraction of global features (continuous moments).
