My research focuses of applying sparse sampling theory to the problem of recovering depth information and the plenoptic function from images. Obtaining the plenoptic function of a scene normally requires either an array of cameras or a specialised plenoptic camera with multiple lenses, such as, the Lytro Illum. Both of these options cause an increase in the cost and complexity of the camera hardware, and so are not widespread in general use consumer electronics. My research is on techniques for extracting a detailed characterisation of the plenoptic function from a single swiped image.
