Dr. Richard Bradbury (BBC, UK) - iCore & CommNet2 Workshop Speaker

Richard Bradbury leads the Internet Distribution team at BBC Research & Development within its Broadcast and Connected Systems research section. Prior to that, he worked in an number of research areas, including interactive television technologies for the BBC Red Button service, hybrid broadcast/IP platforms for BBC iPlayer and metadata architecture for the YouView joint venture. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in broadband networking systems and a B.Sc.(Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Manchester.

Talk Title: "The scalability challenge for broadcasting on the Internet"

Abstract: As more and more consumers migrate from traditional broadcast services to live and on-demand consumption from the Internet, BBC R&D has been tasked with developing new technologies to produce and deliver a rich and diverse array of editorially compelling content via IP networks at mass scale and at an affordable cost. This presentation examines some of the key distribution technology challenges in achieving these goals and presents some potential solutions currently under investigation.
