Talk Title: "Breaking the RF Spectrum Crunch: Recent Advances in Optical Wireless"
Abstract: The quantum-leaps predicted by Moore's law brought about the wireless
revolution of the past three decades [1] - but how can we sustain this pace of development, Dr Moore?
The popularity of smart-phones and tablet computers brought about the 'data-tsunami' and hence the wireless communications
community turned its attention to hitherto untapped resources in the mm-wave and optical wireless part of the electro-magnetic
spectrum [1]. Numerous optical wireless transmission solutions have been proposed, ranging from low-complexity on-off keying
(OOK) to colour shift keying (CSK) and asymmetrically clipped optical orthogonal frequency-divisionmultiplexing (ACO-OFDM)
based multiple-transmit/receive aperture (MTRA) selection aided systems. A range of promising techniques will be
reviewed [1] - [6], followed by a number of open challenges, indicating that future is bright for optical wireless researchers...
