Athanasios (Thanos) Gkelias received his MEng in Electrical and
Computer Engineering (major in Telecommunications) from the Aristotle University
of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2000. He received his MSc and PhD degrees in 2001 and 2006, respectively,
both from the
Department of Electronic Engineering, King's College London.
Currently, he is a Research Fellow at Imperial
College London working as a researcher and project manager on the
RCSD-Localisation project sponsored by DSTL.
From 2009 to 2013 he served as the project manager of the University Defence Research Centre (UDRC) in Signal Processing at Imperial College sponsored by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD). In the summer of 2008 he was at Bell-Labs Research Centre, Alcatel-Lucent, UK, working as a visiting researcher on wireless mesh networks. During March-April 2007 he was a visiting researcher at Athens Information Technology (AIT), Greece.
He participated in several ICT project, such as: Distributed Analytics and Information Sciences - International Technology Alliance (DAIS-ITA), Network and Information Sciences - International Technology Alliance (NIS-ITA), Mobile-IP Network Development (FP5-IST MIND), FP6-IST e-SENSE, Mobile-VCE, Multi-Element Multihop Backhaul Reconfigurable Antenna Network (FP6-IST MEMBRANE), etc. He has been serving as an editor for the Hindawi - International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks and he has been in the organising and technical program committee of several major conferences and workshops, such as, PIMRC, ICC, GLOBECOM, VTC etc. He is an IEEE Senior Member (2015) and an EU Expert and project evaluator (2019).
